Ian Kilpatrick
ian: I actually liked Calculus; but preferred Physics. What are you studying in school?

at 12:45PM 10/08/07

ashton
bob: i wanna be a high skool math teacher. its not that i dont like calculus, its just hard.

at 01:18PM 10/08/07

Joseph William Perry
openjoe: I took calculus my first quarter in college. But I didn't get it, even though the brainy guys in the dorm tried to help me, so I transferred down to trigonometry, which I proceeded to fail. Later I got a D in algebra to complete my math requirement. But I got straight A's in music theory!!!!

ashton
bob: way to go. rite now i have a C in the class

at 02:54PM 10/08/07

Joseph William Perry
openjoe: Bob, I finally found out years later approximately what calculus was about. In college I didn't understand "why calculus?"

at 02:56PM 10/08/07

Joseph William Perry
openjoe: It took minds like Newton and Liebnitz to invent such a thing.

at 02:59PM 10/08/07

ashton
bob: yea those dudes were real smart. what is it about? cause all i know is that i have to have it for my major.

at 03:02PM 10/08/07

Joseph William Perry
openjoe: I said I found out approximately. I think it's kind of about curves that change their curvature as they go? - as in acceleration.

at 04:01PM 10/08/07

ashton
bob: ah ok

at 04:04PM 10/08/07

Babs
Reggie: I'm not a math mind at all, without a calcualtor I'm lost. Geometry might as well have been written in greek, calculus, I cant even imagine

at 04:31PM 10/08/07

ashton
bob: usually im pretty good at math but calculus is a different story

at 04:33PM 10/08/07

lindsay
lindsay: answer key = back of the book & upside down. Hurray. a night free from homework!

at 04:34PM 10/08/07

ashton
bob: yea thats where i usually go but it doesnt work that way on tests

at 04:36PM 10/08/07

Joseph William Perry
openjoe: Quote from a page entitled "Why Calculus?"
"Calculus is fundamentally a theory of continuous objects. However, in many applications the theory is extended through the interplay between discreteness and continuity. Discrete problems may be described by continuous models and discrete methods may be applied to solve continuous problems."

Babs
Reggie: still makes no sense...how does that play out day to day???

at 04:43PM 10/08/07

ashton
bob: wow now im so lost...everyday its a new story

at 05:04PM 10/08/07

Joseph William Perry
openjoe: I dunno, but I'll bet it helps them get a space ship to Mars.

at 05:12PM 10/08/07

ashton
bob: i bet your right. it probably helps them do all that kind stuff.
