yay! this might sound funny but what does "gravis ardor" mean on the top of the screen??
at 11:40PM 08/18/08
elishajbaker:
In Latin, literally (more or less) it means a "Heavy [gravis - that is, weighty, serious, grave, intense, or when speaking of sounds, deep] Burning [Ardor - burning, heat, but in common usage in its metaphorical sense as passion, intense emotion, strong feeling; the same sense as its use in English.] C.S. Lewis noted its meaning in brief as "the burning weight of desire." Often used in the Graeco-Roman world specifically to speak of a very strong or consuming Eros. Occasionally used by Christian theologians and mystics, but probably most famous today from Catullus' moderately scatalogical poems. Personally, I think "gravis ardor" is best explained as an excellent descriptor for the general theme and feeling of the Song of Solomon...
