Mary
maryj: oh dear! a mouse in the house??

at 11:11AM 08/27/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: Our house is totally infested! I see them scamper by several times a day, and hear them chewing on things all the time. Yesterday one just sat there and stared at me for a while. Traps aren't working. I think I need a good hunting cat.

Amy Dubois
duboisfive: oh no!

at 11:15AM 08/27/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: I suppose if I cleaned my house spotless I could starve them out, but that's hard to do with three little boys.

at 11:17AM 08/27/08

Mary
maryj: yes, with little boys around that is hard to do...I agree I think you need a good hungry cat!!

at 11:19AM 08/27/08

Tm
tiffanymalia: "eeeeek, a MOUSE!" We have some traps you could try....traps them alive and you release them elsewhere.... might work. Mice love peanut butter, makes great bait...

at 12:04PM 08/27/08

Skylene
sky: Oh My gosh! He would be cute if he was in a cage....at the pet store....as food for snakes.... hee hee !

at 12:24PM 08/27/08

Benjamin Leedy
benleedy: Yeah, you need a cat, Tov. No question. Find the skinniest, nicest one you can at the pound and let him loose in your house. There are some interesting ways to to trap mice in a room long enough to let a cat have his day too. I can go in depth if you're interested.
You could also get a rat terrier. That's what they were bred for after all. They're a bit loud for me though. Rather a big cat than a small dog for me.

Amanda Estes
aloe: Yikes! I think mice are cute in a books or children's story, but not in a house!!

at 01:52PM 08/27/08

abe leedy
abeleedy: How did you get such a close up pic???

at 07:25PM 08/27/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: confession: I didn't take the pick, I actually got it ofline, but I have had them stare me down like that, and today I caught a live one that I could have taken a picture of if my phone was working. I thought rat terriers were called that for their resemblance, hahaha. Not really interested in live traps. I know it would be more humane, but at this point I just want them (and their droppings) gone!
@ben: when David and I were newlyweds we bought a feeder mouse for our pet cat. It was very graphic. I eventually put the poor thing out of it's misery with a swift bop on the head with a metal serving spoon. The poor thing was running around disemboweled. Hopefully a cat will do most of it's hunting at night though so we don't have to witness it "playing" with it's food.

at 08:21PM 08/27/08

Benjamin Leedy
benleedy: I've never seen that. Must have been a cat that didn't know what it was doing. You remember Moo? She didn't mess around. She was the perfect verminator, except when she would bring me trophies, lol. Maybe a little research into what breed makes a good anti-mouse cat would help.

at 08:37AM 08/28/08

Benjamin Leedy
benleedy: Okay, get an American Shorthair. Apparently they came to America from Europe because early settlers kept them on their ships to hunt mice and rats. They kept them around for that same purpose in their homes and on farms. They are well mannered, robust and excellent hunters. Tabby's are an example of th American Shorthair breed.

Elaine Traverso
grandmat: Get a cat! You do not have a good way to keep them out. and the area you are in invites them inside. Now with cooler weather and rain they want to be inside. When I was there I heard the trap catch one one night. You could trap for a long time and not get all of them I believe!

at 09:31AM 08/28/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: @ben: thanks for getting the intel on what sort of cat to get ;)

at 01:01PM 08/28/08

Benjamin Leedy
benleedy: Hey, sis, Intel is what I do ;)

at 05:35AM 08/29/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: Yes, that is why I used that word. Thanks for using your finely honed military skills in my war against the mice ;)

at 06:49AM 08/29/08

Benjamin Leedy
benleedy: Hey, if you need close air support, I'll see what I can do.

at 09:40AM 08/29/08

abe leedy
abeleedy: Ha... my kids!

at 06:32PM 08/29/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: We must have gotten our wit from you, right Dad?

....since mom still has hers ;)

at 12:18AM 08/30/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: who knows what book I got that line from?

at 12:18AM 08/30/08

abe leedy
abeleedy: Hey......I've still got half!

at 12:53PM 08/30/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: lol!!!

cathy
cathy_1942: When we moved to this house it had lots of mice, rats and squirrels. They were chewing up everything. We got cats (outdoor) and I haven't seen even a mouse in several years. The squirrels make a detour when they come to our house. We know the cats catch them because we sometimes find furry tails.

at 05:39PM 09/05/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: We got a free kitten yesterday. Jeremiah is totally in love with it. Josiah left the door open and it took off. Pray we find it before they get home from fishing with Uncle Ben (the other Ben)

at 05:16PM 09/06/08

cathy
cathy_1942: Oh no! I will pray! It's probably hiding for now but may show up when it's time to eat. One of our cats is a feral cat. She showed up at our house as a kitten. She won't let us touch her but she always comes to eat.

at 07:02PM 09/06/08

Tovah Potter
tovah: Yep, Mouser was just hiding. Praise God he came out about five minutes before the boys came home. :)

at 07:22PM 09/06/08

Elaine Traverso
grandmat: I am glad he did. Maybe he was overwhelmed with the mice!

at 07:25PM 09/06/08

cathy
cathy_1942: Happy ending, yay! :-)

at 07:28PM 09/06/08

Benjamin Leedy
benleedy: Let's see a picture of Mouser.
