sorry, a lady took a statue of St. Joseph and buried it in her yd and her house sold within 4 days. It wasn't selling until then.
they talked about having faith. Joseph does mean prosperity.

oh I see, I agree totally that this was a prophetic act.

I've heard of this before, very popular in catholic cultures......I'm not too sure what I think about this though.

I know that it could be superstition but being that Joseph means prosperity. I do stuff similar to this with faith attached to it as a prophetic act. ??

so superstition is just inverted faith? that's so interesting!

I have to ask myself how could this be any different than the stuff we do? We put stakes with scriptures on the corners of our properties. I remember when in Israel Lynn buried pics of our families from here there. There are countless other acts. So how could this be any different? My best friends are Catholic and I use to be so narrow minded about the catholic church, that I did not want to pursue friendship with them. God has taught me otherwise. I believe you have to look at the heart and discern the motive.

annieem:
If I read scripture right, I believe Jesus in his miracles performed prophetic acts. They just happened much sooner because he is God. The water turning to wine. The blind man etc...lol
at 07:34PM 11/16/08
jane:
i can totally see that as a prophetic act! i had a friend that was a catholic that did the same when she was trying to sell her house, and it worked. i think i remember her saying they prayed to the different saints for different needs though...
at 07:38PM 11/16/08
annieem:
My husband said to bury a statue as a catholic, they are praying to that saint for God to help them. I can see his point and agree from that end. We are to pray to God not to icon of a saint.
at 07:39PM 11/16/08
christief:
I agree with you Anne but not to be a butt.....My question is does this feel like more glory goes to the statue or God? Although Joseph was a Godly man and he means prosperity is it him who gets the glory here of God. I agree with a prophetic act such as this though but it feels like burying scripture with Gods word would seem like more of a God thing to me than one of his prophets. I only mean this as curiosity for learning not judgement.

didn't work for my client.....they sell the statues in the Real Estate store

There is a huge difference between a "prophetic act" and burying a statue of a man who has been canonized by the catholic church. The first thing you need to ask is which Joseph is being refered to. I believe that the "prosperity" Joseph being referred to by some of the above post's, is the one found in Genesis, the son of Jacob. The Catholics have at least two Josephs who are considered "saints": Joseph the husband of Mary and Joseph of Arimithea. I could bet you good money that the staue was NOT the Joseph who was in Egypt. Secondly, it would be ridiculous for me to bury picture of Bob Jones or some other well known person and pray to the picture. As Ann pointed out, you do not pray to the object of your prophetic act. We need to be very, very careful here because praying to anybody or anything other than our Lord is idolatry and last I checked it was a no no. I am in no way saying that any one here is suggesting that, but we do need to know the difference. Lest anyone accuse me of being anti-catholic, let me say that I love the catholics (my best friends belong to the catholic church), I have attended midnight mass on Christmas Eve the last 5 years and the presence of God was thick in the building and I honor the catholic church. As I have told my friends - "You guys are catholic, my wife is Jewish who believes that Jesus is the Messiah and I'm protestant! I covered!"
papabear:
I agree! Almost as good as the roasted acorn-squash soup I just made!!!:)

Awww my husband, I love him. He helps me see things I sometimes miss. He did apparently go to catholic school as a wee child, and then attended the Lutheran church's school thru eight grade, ya know, heheee. He was a cute mischevious altar boy! Oh the stories!!!!

ingamae:
We could bury a statute of Jesus which covers the whole salvation which includes prosperity right?? I was raised Catholic too and I understand the Joseph statute to be Marys husband not the Joseph of Genesis FYI - I know that a lot of Catholics have done it but I wondered if the sale of their house created a-sowing/ reaping somewhere for them in the second realm of owing something to that god in the future or whatever......I want to understand prophetic acts more though--I'm just learning about them from your teaching Beni and I'm fascinated!! I had this thought of you holding a conference where everyone soaks and then gets up and starts declaring what God wants to do on issues---I loved how you told that one pastor: You just need to soak!!!!!! LOL u are awesome Beni! And bold! And inspiring!

@anniem- YOU ARE SOOO CUTe!! I love you and pappabear!!!
shilohgirl:
good word papa bear!!! and everyone esle too GOd bless all of our catholic freinds and protestant and jews the deal for here would be Rhema verses logos. If God's spirit told me to go and bury a statue of Josheph which ever one I would do it but again to do it because it has worked for someone else and the spirit of God did not move me then is when I think it has the potential to be an act of idolatry. Any way I so enjoyed reading all of these posts and they all make me stop and think about where is God's presence in all of this. good thinking everybody

@papabear--you know we really should....i went to Queen of Heaven K-8 and then St. Pius 9-12.....The thing is I don't remember a thing about the teachings!!!! so i am not sure how good of a story swapper i will be!! I only remember the Our Father and Hail Mary because I said it however many times each night according to my age..so at 8 i would say the Our Father 8 times in a row every night.....hehheheheh..I have no idea why i did that according to my age? superstitious and then the rosary ladies were my example and i think i liked what they did so i copied them sorta...=-)

just a thought. In the book of revelation chapter 5:8 why is it that the SAINTS are the ones who present to the slain lamb(Jesus) the prayers of all the saints throughtout history????I think there could be something that about the synergy of the ages that us Protestants are missing. When God answered Abrahams prayer through Jacob or Issac it was considered the same as if he did it through Abraham. I'm not saying let's conjur up our favorite saint in history, but I am saying that we have a greater connectivness to them than we think. God loves community and he wants us to do it together!

p.s. I attended confirmation classes as a teenager for two plus years. And if I could find a spirit filled catholic church that isn't mellowed out I'd join!

ingamae:
@willmatthews: Queen of Heaven was not spirit filled but I'd like to join one if i found one...I'll find one with you when we connect sometime! we will just get blasted with the HG!hahah Aren't we the Saints?
papabear:
@ingamae & willmathews: Man oh man did a buunch of memories surface after reading your post's. St. Mels School in Fair Oaks CA my first two years (I was raised Lutheran and there was an exchange program between the churches - yep - trying the reconciliation thing in the sixties!) Then on to a Lutheran parochial school until high school. Remember your first communion? If you take the catholic catechism, throw out the doctines of the Virgin Mary, the Pope and the Saints, you pretty much have the Lutheran catechism. I miss the majesty and reverence that the church taught back in those days. Don't get me wrong...I love the freedom of worship that we have, but the awesome reverence of an absolute majestic God is what I sorely miss in a church setting. I remember the first time I went to an Assembly of God church and they served communion and when I saw some 7 year old kid I said "Hey! He's cheating! He hasn't had a year of confirmation! No fair!" Then they served GRAPE juice instead of wine? What the heck is going on here???!!! I will be honest though - I doubt any 12 year old boy looks forward to a solid year of catechism, but it did leave me with a better appreciation of the history of the church throughout the ages. Will - if I'm ever in KC we will have to hook up and swap stories!

i don't know what statement this makes, but here's a testimony about the statue not working.
A lady attending our church in Colorado could NOT sell her house no matter what she tried. She told our pastor's wife Kelly about it. Kelly knew nothing of the catholic tradition, but God showed her the statue the woman had buried in her yard.(don't know if it was Joseph).
Kelly asked the woman about it who said yes, she had buried one to help sell the house. Kelly felt the woman needed to dig it up. When the lady dug it out of her backyard, the head of the statue was broken off and missing. And then.... the house sold the very next day.

@papa bear. I didn't grow up catholic, but I have the testimony of a Protestant who was completely intrigued by catholicism. I even have a story about how I decieved the catholic diocese of North Carolina. I call it the great catholic scandal!!!! I'm moving to Redding in January. I can tell it to you then! :-)

@papabear-Yup Will Matthews is moving to Redding in January 2009! Come on Somebody shout Halleluja!!

beni--i didn't read more than the first few posts, so i hope this isn't redundant. but would you say the main difference between what the catholics do and the type of stuff we do is that their's is merely a ritual that has become detached from faith and understanding? we do prophetic acts when specifically led by God (presence), but they do it because they heard it worked for someone else once (principle)?
daniel, true. But, sometimes God will use whatever He wants to love on His people. I'm always amazed at the suppernatural stuff that happens in the catholic church.

willmatthews:
I just pray I don't die without being able to pull as much as I can from the catholic church as I can. They are the original church. They have so many things us evangelicals need! A sense of community, life, traditions, family, and stuctured values. Thank God for Martin Luther breaking away but many believe that the subsequent trickle down effects has been many church splits in the Protestant realm. And it's always over doctrinal difference. We really need a unity in the faith that superceedes all the debating. And that's my two cents.

@ willmathews - dude...we definitely need to get together! @ladybug - If my catholic friends ever visit again, I'd love to introduce them to you.

My favorite part of what Momma Beni said: "But, sometimes God will use whatever He wants to love on His people." NOW THAT JUST MADE MY DAY COMPLETE and HAPPIER! it is the truth!! that is soo good.....and really should be the title to a book!!!

papabear:
I agree ingamae, Beni needs to write a book on that subject... I wish I could capture how heavy the prescenc of God was when I went to my first Christmas eve Mass. I could have fallen to the ground shouting "Whoa" but I didnt think it would go over to well. :) The Holy Spirit is up to something in the catholic church and I wish I had some better insight as to what it was. When Ann and I went to Montana to visit our friends, they introduced us to their priest (Father John, from Ireland). This man literally dripped with the presence of God on him. They had bought a St. Christophers medal and had him bless it and then they gave it to our son Jared when he deployed to Kuwait. I had to tell myself to look past what some would think and look at the heart of the gift. I believe Jared still wears it, not to honor any catholic saint, but to honour his friends and their prayers for him.

@papabear: that is beautiful...what you wrote..it made me want to go to Catholic Christmas Eve mass this year...how odd!!!!! @ladybug: What cloister of nuns is praying for you and Bill?? My sister told me when i first got saved: Are you sure you don't want to be a nun Ingrid???----hahahhahah....she didn't understand my passion for Jesus and thought that only nuns and priests were as passionate as I was....now she's getting a better idea i think. @willmatthews: I wonder if some nuns and priests have a secret fond pure love for one another!!! however it may be possible that they are choosing to be single just like me!
