Need help planning a family get away for xmas vacation, anyone know of a fun place for family within 6 hours?

I was hoping to go south of the bay since I've never been, someone suggested Santa Cruz, we've done a lot of the stuff in SF. Have you been south, along the coast?

The ocean near Santa Cruz is always fun and Memorable ...Ocean makes great flicks...Then you can send pictures to bu2 to show us..

I grew up in the Santa Cruz/Monterey area and know all the spots!! A couple musts to visit are the Boardwalk, Santa Cruz pier to see the seals and have clam chowder, then drive down to Monterey for the aquarium. It's world-class! Other fun spots are the "Big Trees" redwoods outside of Santa Cruz in Felton ~ they have steam train rides through the woods. Very fun.

If you make it as far south as Carmel, you definitely need to go to Point Lobos Reserve. There are walking trails up high right along the ocean where you can look down at the waves, otters, etc. GORGEOUS place ~ excellent photo spot!

If you go to Monterey..There is a city called Sand City..small but it has kool little stores..The ocean is beautiful. I dont know anything else there.Google it..

Santa Cruz is the 2nd best city in the world. Only bad thing is it is winter time. I do not think the theme rides on the pier are opened. If you do not mind the cold you could surf. You have to eat at pizza my heart.

Yeah my favorites from when I was a kid were the boardwalk (watching Marinis make the taffy is so much fun!), walking down the wharf and seeing the sea lions, going to downtown Santa Cruz, and then going to my grandma & grandpa's and being spoiled with all the yummiest food & company. (Sorry that last part has moved away from Santa Cruz now.... but I had to throw it in ;) ).
