Relax girls, Sheena the Enticer has been found out. It's a loaner.

Hey Mr...I was just making my way to this page to clarify....we just got home! Yes it's absolutely a loaner.....that I'd like to buy :) Our lexus is in the shop again (hitting almost 100,000 miles!). Anybody wanna buy ours? No of course not...it's not worth nearly what we paid for it, and even if we traded it in, we would still owe!! What are ya'lls thoughts on leasing? Because why buy something that really doesn't turn out to be an asset anyway? It depreciates so quickly, and once it is finally paid off, you're guna want a newer car in 5 years anyway. Is this just me?

leasing boils down to one simple factor- mileage. period. will you stay within the miles they give you? it's usually 10k, which ain't a lot. You need to be dang sure you'll stay within the miles- just look at what you've driven the last few years. If you've driven close to that or more the last couple years, DON'T DO IT. The penalty for overmileage is STEEP. Otherwise, yeah, they're not a bad deal. Unless you get one that you simply can't afford.

I didn't know there was a mileage rule. Is 10,000 the general limit....or are there different options? I think I'm more at 12,000 on average a year. So are all of the leases for 10,000 miles?

sheena:
See I don't know if I could be limited like that. Every time I would get in the car, I would think..."ok this is going to add more miles....do I really need to go to the store, or go here or there"....I don't want to live like that :(

also Brandon says leasing is a never ending car payment that can be TWICE the cost of a normal payment... the goal is no debt ultimately. Im sorry your lexus is ill again, i liked it when you said it was your dream car when we rode in it the other day, I love it when people get their dreams!

Rachel/Brandon is right- provided the context is a person who is actually working to no car debt- which we should. But for the person who is constantly replacing one car payment with another then a lease is a consideration (again, mileage) and the no maintenance thing does have some cost benefit as well.

some leases are for 12000 and almost never more, but you don't want to be right on the cusp like that.

(and from a very non-Brandon / materialistic perspective...[this is Rach] one cool thing about leasing is that you can get the new car you want every year!!! but i know thats not the goal and its not good to think that way, but it is kinda exciting to change your car every year for the newest cutest model! lol!!!)
