papabear: On Christmas day, 1914, German and British soldiers declared a truce to the fighting and met in "No Mans Land" and celebrated the birth of Christ. They did this on their own and did not ask permission from their respective headquarters The truce lasted for a few days longer when the generals of both sides decided that the war must go on -or as one british general said "Our soldiers will realise that the enemy is just like them and not the monster we have led them to believe." So, sadly the business of killing continued until 1918. But this shows that the power of love can even each out across battlefields and bring "peace on earth" even if for a short time!
