That's totally not where the word hamburger comes from. Has nothing to do with Ham, Janna! The word derives from hamberg, germany where they would make a kind of sandwich out of ground beef that would later be called the hamburger.
Not sure if that's true, but it sounds good.

Although disputed, it's most likely that the hamburger was brought to the US by German immigrants, most of whom came through the German port city of Hamburg.
