Haha it does! The media is so negative about stuff like this. They were questioning moms about being selfish because they wanted a homebirth and weren't thinking about the baby. They had Ricki lake because she did a documentary about her home birth, so that was positive. It's sad that people think they need medical intervention for birth like it's a "sickness". There are women who need to be in a hospital for special needs, but most would be amazed at what their bodies can do without being flat on their back laboring. Alright, steping down off my soap box now. Oh, and they also had kids who were breastfed til 9 years old and they interviewed women who have orgasms while laboring. Wyatt will be weaned by a year and a half and yes please on orgasmic births. :)

I plan on having my next one at a hospital again, but I will have a VERY thorough birthing plan, so it will be like being at home. I just don't feel comfortable staying at home to have the baby...partially because it's a federal offense in IL if it's done with a midwife.
rachiebee:
I will have a nurse-midwife instead of an OB, too. I loved the Ricki Lake movie, and totally agree with it. It's ridiculous the things they try to implement on people, and how quickly they will put you on the OR list for a Cesarean. Silly. And most women don't realize it because they are uneducated, and trust Dr.s to know what they're doing. I read the book "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" and it was AMAZING. Totally opened my eyes.

@ carli - YES! Like the midwife goes to JAIL.
rachiebee:
Yeah, it's craziness. And not much better in Missouri. So I'm kinda stuck. I don't hate hospitals. As long as I have someone to attend my birth that I know will support me in all of my decisions to keep it as natural as possible, I'll be happy.

I'm not against hospital births at all...I had two of my girls in the hospital. It just seems a little extreme to not give women the choice to birth at home. Having a homebirth made me so much more impressed with the way God designed our bodies. I had to exercise faith in His design in order have peace through the delivery. It was so cool...I was so glad God told me to have Bella at home. :)
rachiebee:
yup, i think it's great. I had pre-eclampsia with Tobi, so i had to be induced, and I'm just really doing my best to detox right now and get my cells healthy with the help of the chiropracter so that I don't have to deal with it again, hopefully. I just really don't mind doing the hospital thing. For some reason, having a baby in my house doesn't appeal to me. I don't think I would be more comfortable, but I don't know. Anyway, people still have babies at home in IL, but they have to do it all secretly, and God-forbid something bad happens that means you ahve to go to a hospital, and then you're found out. I don't think it's a big deal on the mother's part (meaning, I don't think they get into trouble), but I know that the midwife will be in deep doo doo. They don't even list IL midwives online, for fear of them getting caught. It's craziness!

In Indiana they have an entire network of Midwives and many of them are Amish women who have had over 5-10 babies at home.. it's totally awesome. I didn't have my babies at home and good thing as they were all needing some form of Doctors help in some way. The funny thing is I had such a DIStrust and almost hatred for doctors that God put me into their hands and I began to trust GOD more and also the doctors, went thru enormous healing, isn't that wild? I remember telling my one doctor I loved him after my son was born as I was so terrified and he helped me relax. God knows what will increase our faith.... for some it's home birth for others it's let go and go to a hospital .... ALL things work together for good.... :)

Hi Laura!!!! LOVE YOU!!!! @rachie, midwives in Redding are not allowed hospital privileges but in OR where my sister had her youngest, the midwives work right along side the doctors in the hospital...so awesome.

good word Sandi. I completely agree. Its all about the season you're in. I would have never even considered homebirth with my first two...but with Bella, it was exactly what He wanted me to do...its part of what makes Bella who she is...hence her middle name being Faith :)

Yeah, i know that we're some of the only few states with such weird laws. Oh well. I am just happy that I can still avoid the medical stuff and have a nurse-midwife help out. It should be great. I HAVE SO MUCH BABY FEVER RIGHT NOW! hahahah
But we have to wait until March. Ugh!

Wow, that's extreme! Poor midwives, they get so much criticism. Mine delivered me and both my babies, and Carlis third, Bella. The one hospital in Redding that delivers has over 50% rate of c-section! We have quite a few people that use Nora, our midwife, because of that.

That's awesome Sandi. I think if they let midwives and Dr.s work together with respect for one another, it would be the best of both worlds. There is a hospital in Red Bluff, about 25 minutes away that does that and they have great results.

I loved my midwife in Red bluff, my labors there were so much better and more relaxed than Peytons who was born in Redding. That is sad that they are illegal is some states. Carlis, you will make an awesome midwife someday!

OK I forgot to check back on this. I have so much to say but I am way too tired!! :) I love what Sandi said about not being able to trust Dr's but realizing She needed to trust God and that he had her in His hand. I totally agree. I just went through having Bethany by a male Gyno in a hospital setting. Total opposite of what I was used to and I really relied on God that He knew what he was doing! Sorry if this is off subject :) Trust God...the woman's body is incredible...Dr's arent all bad, but I still prefer a midwife :)
