The company I worked for, Kurant, was just recently acquired by eBay and renamed to ProStores. eBay decided to unveil the new branding, direction, etc at eBay Live! 2005. They sent our whole team from Folsom to San Jose to participate in the activities.
I know that eBay is a large company but I had no idea people were so obsessive about it. I have heard stories but they don't really give one the full effect. We pulled up to San Jose being doused in color.
I was personally pretty bored once we checked out the ProStores both in the expo area. In my whole lifetime I have only purchased 2 things on eBay so this was not my gig. We decided to go checkout San Jose rather than stick around. We quickly found something mischievous .. Overstock. They were advertising a VIP-type party to lure people away from the eBay happenings so we decided to crash it. We lasted about 10 minutes before we started making a ruckus. Of course we ended up knocking stuff down when we escaped.
Of course it would not be an event without the traditional Kurant pub stop. The British pub we found was pretty cool and we sat in the garden area in the back. Unfortunately we started smelling sewage and had to revert back indoors. I got lucky -- they had Boddingtons.
We all marched back to the HP Pavilion stadium for the big keynote by Meg herself. They had free pizza, soda, hot dogs, etc which was pretty cool. We piled into the stadium and were surprised at how long they talked about ProStores -- we were a pretty big deal! |
