Isn't it funny how it looks like a face, to get people over their fear of talking on that new fangled thing :)

Way back when. we had a phone exactly like that. Of course it was a party line. Our "Ring" was one long and one short. Our phone number was 17F11, 17 being the line, "F" stood for "Farm," and the 11 (one-one) was our ring - one long and one short. How's that for history?

Wow, dadster, can't believe you remember your old phone number! Did you actually say "f" or did you use a word to stand for that like "17 Franklin 11"?

Dan had a phone long before we did because our number was Tuxedo 2 8887. We had four people on our line. One was Jimmy Raney and he was sneaking around with Rae Stactes. They were married to some one else. We would try to catch them. When you needed to call some one you pick up but could not call because Jimmy and Rae were hanging on but would not say anything until you hung up. That was the biggest thing that ever happen down in my neck of the woods.

@dani-If we wanted to call somebody else on our party line we would just lift the receiver, turn the crank 3 or four turns for a long and maybe one turn for a short. Our neighbors number was 17F 4, meaning four shorts. If we wanted to call our cousins on party line 15 we would have to turn the crank once to call the operator and we would say "One Five F Four" please. and she would patch us over to line 15 and ring four shorts for us. Then the others on both party lines could listen in if they wished. We called that "rubbernecking."
